Mount Charles are passionate about nurturing the development of every child throughout their primary journey. Through a thoughtfully designed curriculum, we aim to ignite curiosity, foster resilience, and promote lifelong learning. We aim to ensure that every child leaves Mount Charles feeling confident, proud, resilient and ready for secondary school.
 
Mount Charles provides a wide range of activities and experiences aimed at capturing children’s talents and interests. Personal development is taught in a range of ways throughout the children’s school journey.For example:
  • in discrete lessons (please see the PSHE curriculum, including coverage of British Values and SMSC).
  • through cross-curricular links in other lessons.
  • in assemblies and workshops: guest speakers, role-playing, and interactive activities.
  • by encouraging positive leadership among pupils through roles such as school councillors, play leaders, reading ambassadors and class librarians.
  • by celebrating diversity: embracing cultural differences and promoting inclusivity.
  • by specialist staff working with individuals and groups.
  • in online safety lessons in computing and assembly.
  • by celebrating positive learning attributes daily and with weekly certificates.
  • in the range of extra-curricular clubs on offer.
  • through well thought through transitions throughout the school and beyond.
  • by focusing on mental and physical health.
  • through outdoor activities, visits and residentials.
Mount Charles Charter
 
Integral to the Personal Development offer at Mount Charles we have created the Mount Charles Charter: 50 things to do before you leave Mount Charles. The aim is to ensure all pupils have valuable experiences that support them to:
 
  • Explore the World: guiding pupils in understanding the world around them, fostering curiosity and a sense of wonder
  • Build Relationships: teaching essential social and emotional skills, emphasizing empathy, communication, and collaboration.
  • Understand Health and Well-being: pupils learning about physical health, emotional well-being, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Develop Transferable Skills: equipping pupils with skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and resilience.
